Events: Above & Beyond

So I have to start by saying: 5 hours drive there, 5 hours drive back from Cluj to Brasov. So who is insane enough to make that kind of trip for some trance DJ’s? We are!!!! Because those weren’t trance DJ’s, those were Gods.

We arrived in Cluj at 20:30 and we managed to kill some time in the center. I have to say, Cluj is very beautiful this time of year. At 21:45 we went to the club where we waited for the gates to open at 22:30.

Some DJ called C-zar was playing some minimal music to warm-up the crowd. Nothing special, but I think that was useful for the crowd there. I can’t taste that kind of music. Then DJ Dare took the spinners and managed to warm up us a little bit. He wasn’t as bright as he used too, but Medina – You and I (Dash Berlin ReMix) at the end did the job for me. Stefanno & Julianno entered afterwards. They didn’t managed to raise my expectations high enough. It was quite a boring set in my oppinion, but the last song (Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes) was a brilliant way to end a mediocre set . I’m sick of Wippenberg’s Pong, I’ve heard it last night for 3 times.

I was waiting for Above & Beyond to come through the main door, so I can take some pictures. And there they were, Paavo, Tony and their manager. They started their set with the tune by Dirty Vegas called Tonight in the A&B Remix. They were having a blast, dancing and making people jump with them. Paavo was my personal favorite. He had such an energy dancing at every breakdown like it was his last. They played some good uplifting tunes (a bless after all the tech and progressive) like Super8 & Tab – Irufushi.

I was waiting for the Oceanlab tunes and the Above & Beyond classics… So they played some of them. I was dancing my shoes off : Miracle, On a Good Day, Lonely Girl, Till the Sky Falls Down (for Oceanlab) and Home, Alone Tonight (for the classics). It was heaven on Earth. It was way past their time set and they didn’t want to go home. They played a half hour extra. Very nice of them.

I didn’t expect such a performance, being my first time seeing this guys I really didn’t expect anything at all. But they’ve managed to raise the bar high for the next time I’m gonna see them. Paavo told me a little gossip: They will play at Trance Energy 2010. So, now I only have to wait like a couple of months for their next performance. Great Job guys!!! You rocked our night!!
